Feeder colony tracking — rodents, roaches and worms you breed yourself

Nobody names a mouse or builds a pedigree for a roach. Feeder colonies are tracked as counts with production events, not as individual animal records — so a forty-bin roach shelf is representable, and two hundred mice do not consume a plan's animal allowance.

They also stay out of your collection entirely: feeders never appear in your animal list, your pedigrees or your public site.

Rodents produce litters. Insects are harvested. HerpSync offers one vocabulary or the other depending on the feeder type rather than asking you which of two words for the same thing you meant, which is what splits a season's history across two buckets.

Sixteen feeder types ship as standard, covering mice, rats, ASF, dubia, crickets and worms.

Stock is an append-only ledger keyed by size and by live or frozen, so the on-hand figure is always the sum of real movements and can be traced back to the rows that produced it. Nothing is a stored balance that can quietly drift.

Feeding an animal draws the right line down — but only when you pick it, never guessed from a free-text food name, because silently decrementing the wrong drawer is worse than not decrementing at all. Delete a mis-logged feeding and the feeders go back.

Tag your bedding, feed and equipment expenses to a colony and HerpSync divides them by what the colony actually bred, giving a cost per feeder produced and a total across the shelf. Bought-in feeders are deliberately excluded from that denominator — they were not bred, and counting them would credit the colony with someone else's work.
