Three cost buckets, not one
A naive ROI figure counts what you spent on a clutch and calls it the cost. HerpSync adds two more: the amortised acquisition cost of the breeders themselves, spread across the pairings they are expected to produce over their lifetime, and a share of general upkeep in the window the pairing ran.
That is the difference between a project that looks profitable and one that is. A $2,000 female that has produced two clutches has not paid for herself, and a figure that ignores her purchase price will never say so.
Honest arithmetic
Money is stored as exact decimals rather than floating point. A ratio with no denominator is reported as unknown, never as zero and never as infinity — a pairing that produced nothing does not get an ROI of 0%, because that is a different claim from 'there is nothing to divide by'.
Aggregations filter on when things actually happened rather than on the current time, so the same question asked twice gives the same answer.
Sales that book themselves
With your own Square account connected, sales at your till, through your Square Online store and through HerpSync payment links all import into the ledger automatically, attributed to the right animal where the link is unambiguous.
A sale of dry goods is booked to its own category rather than into the bucket that ROI reads as an animal's return, so buying four bags of substrate does not flatter a breeding project.
Customers and a waitlist that matches itself
Buyers are records rather than an email thread, sales link to the person who made them, and a waitlist entry is matched against animals as they become available — so the person who asked for a specific morph in March is surfaced when it hatches.

Does HerpSync process payments itself?
No. You connect your own Square account and the money settles directly to you. HerpSync never holds funds and takes no percentage of a sale.
What is amortised acquisition cost?
The purchase price of a breeding animal, divided across the number of pairings it is expected to produce over its working life, so each clutch carries a fair share of what the parents cost rather than the first clutch carrying all of it. It can be switched off per workspace.
